Established patients of UT Health Services may choose convenient telehealth visits when an in-person appointment is not required. Telehealth can be used for check-ins for chronic conditions, medication management, follow-ups, and other ongoing health needs. Your provider can help you decide if telehealth is right for you.

Requirements for a telehealth visit:

  • You must have a reliable internet connection.
  • You must have video and audio capability (we must able to see and hear you).
  • We will ask for your physical location and a call back number in case we get disconnected during the visit.
  • You must be an established patient.
  • You must have MyUTHealth (MyChart) access.

Tips for a successful telehealth visit

  • Test your internet connection and audio/video prior to the visit.
  • Have a quiet, private space for the visit.
  • Make a list of specific questions/concerns to discuss.
  • Have a list of your current medications available.
  • Know your latest vital signs, if possible – temperature, blood pressure, and blood sugar (if applicable).
  • Report any new difficulties with normal activities.
  • Take notes during the visit and repeat any follow-up instructions.
  • Make sure your device is fully charged.
  • Have a pen and paper ready to take notes.

Insurance Notice:

Medicare and most insurance companies currently cover many telehealth services under temporary emergency provisions. However, as the federal public health emergency recently expired, some of the temporary telehealth flexibilities will also expire while others have been extended. The timeline for expiration of these emergency telehealth provisions varies. Coverage details will also vary by payer.
